Podcast Video |
While creating this video, I went through a few frustrating moments in the beginning, but once I got going, I found a motivational rhythm. During the audio part, I felt the most frustration during editing because learning as I went. Having limited time played a role in my determination as well, a deadline. I was fine with recording my voice. I was well aware of how my voice would sound because of past experiences recording my vocals for band recording sessions. I found that the voice sounds abstractly not yours at first when you hear it from a different perspective. As far as the background music, I have a variety of recordings from music projects and solo jams, so I used bits of different recordings of some of these works. I used some of my own recordings of just me playing and recordings from my past band Tarantula Tango. Using music I was familiar with, made it fun to cut and edit sounds around. All of the images I chose to use had been taken by me, like my studio spaces and artwork shots, or were a part of pictures from band music mayhem moments. It was easy to find them all, but was challenging to pick between them. I learned a whole new audio editing system by the time I was done with the audio. I could see using it in a classroom by making a video of a class mural project.

I really enjoyed this group project because I was really engaged and interested in the subject matter and the lesson we were creating. As a group, we collaborated very well together and brought all our strengths to have an enjoyable learning experience that resonated into the actual lesson. I gained new perspectives of ways to reach goals and experienced different techniques of creating a lesson plan from working with my fellow classmates. For instance, when we were creating the teacher models, it helped us to figure out what the expectations should be for students and how the actual art making can actually happen for the lesson. Through experiencing the lesson myself, it gave me perspective to what a student will be experiencing.

Bird Talk: 3D Wearable
I chose to create a fat bird brooch as my wearable object. This bird is simple in design but is full of character. I’ve had a connection to birds ever since I was little. I used to watch them from my bedroom window and would “bird talk” to them and I believed they understood me. As I grew older, I became fascinated with crows and their habits and felt a connection with their personality. I find them to be my good luck sign because they are everywhere I go and if I’m having unsure thoughts or feeling down, seeing a crow makes me feel better. So, reflecting back to creating a child-like bird mostly made of circles represents my childhood and the innocence I once experienced; and on ode to my relationship with birds in general now. This simply designed style represents an aspect of me as a teacher because it supports a theory I enjoy- less is more. I like to add- especially if it makes you smile. Getting an idea across with less visual activity can be rewarding because it may reach a variety of more minds.

Animation: Mad Lion
This was my first animated video and it was very challenging but inspired me to look to using Photoshop in the future for fun educational art projects whether for teaching a class project or my own artistic endeavors. I was also lucky to use a drawing tablet for the first time and it was interesting to experience. I felt a huge difference of connection to the physical drawing aspect of using the tech pen and tablet verses my usual pencil and paper. I am proud that I accomplished and worked long hours on all the steps to create these drawn out scenes. I was determined and I am glad I was so motivated to work with these new materials, because now I know how to use them and they don't seem so foreign and intimidating anymore. I used this assignment as an opportunity to learn a new skills, work with a program and tool I am not too familiar with, and to challenge myself outside of my comfort zone. Also, I was able to learn much from my group partner, as we worked together and collaborated our strengths and sense of humor to create a great video.
Tutorial Video: The Painted Onion
Making this video was fun. I was able to write and record the background music myself. I chose to have the materials and step-by-step visually shown and in text form because I felt this video did not need vocal narration. I got some help with recording the footage for the video since I do not have a tripod. I decided to use materials I had around the house to make a fun project. The cardboard was from the recycling and the canvas tote bags are my reusable grocery bags I already had just like the t-shirt. I paint with acrylic often so I had my primary colors. I used paper plates from past parties so I wouldn't limit myself and feel comfortable with making a mess but keeping the color controlled inside the plate. I just happened to have an extra onion, didn't want it to go bad from not using it up in time so, I got crafty. Creating the video was time consuming but is great the see the end result being cute and fun while still a good step-by-step instructional video.
